Dear Members,
It is with great joy that I send this message to you, knowing fully well that hope has been restored with the just concluded election. It is equally good to say a great thank you to every one and particularly to the Returning officer Eng Young Osuji for a job well done. As we now move into the job of leading the community, I intend with the Executives to bring closer all our brothers and sisters who have in one way or the other moved away from this beautiful union. The reason for their absence may not be certain but we implore them to get in touch and contribute to making Old Orlu great.
To start with, we intend to open up forums where our members can contribute ideas to move our Union forward. I have my own ideas but it will be good to exchange them with each other. I can tell you that I consider issues relating to our children paramount and we can start with plans to educate our children in our mother tongue. We also hope to make plans for recreational activities such as picnics, quiz, debate and frank discussions as part of our community building and improving our lots in UK. Though we do not envisage being only a talking shop, we hope that by utilising all our potentials we can make Old Orlu Divisional Union an institution that our children will be proud of.
Unity was my key election promise. A house that is not strong tends to fall in pieces because of the sandy foundation used to erect it. Old Orlu Div Union was formed with great expectations and we intend to pursue and maintain such ideals.
Many of us have gone through many phases of lives - the good, the bad and the ugly. I believe that after these trivial times, maturity has set in to bring out our true character of brotherly/sisterly love for each other and resilience.
We have now grown up and the destiny of Old Orlu rests with all of us. We have to respect one another, respect our members and believe that God in his infinite mercy will give us all that we ask for.
ORLU KWENU : ORLU KWEZUO NU. Sir Dan Otuonye.
